Melayu Mana Tak Makan BABI?

Teringat aku, satu waktu dulu tebal muka mak bapak aku bila apek penjual ikan di pasar Kuala Kangsar mengatakan, "mana ada Melayu tak makan babi Encik Hasan..."

Ada lagi tak spesies Melayu tak makan babi ni? Kah kah kah kah kah kah!!!!

I am Babi. Parveen Babi.

Kaunter tertutup babi apa? Seumur hidup aku belum jumpa kaunter tertutup. Kalau tertutup macam mana nak meniaga? Tak pernah aku dengar penjual tak mau jual barang.

Serius punya tindakan. Kasi hukuman keras denda kerja berat. Bukan denda celah gigi.

Babi tak JAKIM ni? Babi kan?

Memang babi.

How Sarawakians Become Malaysian

THE normative story of Malaysia goes something like this: in 1961, the newly independent Federation of Malaya’s Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman, suggested the formation of a wider federation. This would consist of Malaya, Singapore, Brunei, Sarawak and Sabah.

Malayans and Singaporeans agreed, but Sabahans and Sarawakians were not wholly convinced. Neighbouring Philippines objected, asserting claims over Sabah. Indonesia saw the suggestion as a neo-colonialist project. Nevertheless, in 1962, the Cobbold Commission found that the majority of Sabahans and Sarawakians agreed to the new federation. On 16 September 1963, the Federation of Malaysia consisting of Malaya, Singapore, Sabah and Sarawak was formed. Brunei declined to join, and Singapore left the federation in 1965.

Normative historical narratives are often contested, and this narrative is no different. But this commentary is concerned with how the narrative took shape after the formation of Malaysia, specifically in relation to Sarawak. In other words, it was one thing to make Malaysia, but then how did the founders of Malaysia go on to make Malaysians?

Life Before Malaysia

Together with Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat

TAN SRI Simon Sipaun counts himself fortunate to be alive today. “My parents had five children, but only two survived…I was the third child and first to survive,” he recounts in an e-mail interview on 1 April 2011. Sipaun not only survived, but went on to win scholarships to Victoria University, New Zealand and Oxford University, England and was Sabah’s State Secretary from 1988 to 1993.

Amongst other senior positions, Sipaun was also vice-chairperson of the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) from 2003 to 2010. He continues his commitment to promoting human rights through the new Persatuan Promosi Hak Asasi Manusia (Proham), which comprises former Suhakam commissioners. Sipaun was appointed Proham’s first chairperson in March 2011.

JANGAN . Berbagai-bagai Jangan

Don't do what you sincerely don't want to do.

Never dare to to judge till you have heard the other side.

Never continue in a job you don't enjoy.

Never feel self-pity, the most destructive emotion there is.

Never go on trips with anyone you do not love.

Never let the odds keep you from pursuing what you know in your heart you were meant to do.

Never lose a chance of saying a kind word.

Never rise to speak till you have something to say; and when you have said it, cease.

Yg ini jangan dibior. KAH KAH KAH! KAH KAH KAH! KAH KAH KAH!
