KUALA LUMPUR, 1 AUG, 2010: The call for Cabinet members to declare their assets to the public is not suitable to be implemented in Malaysia, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

Janganlah ajak 1Malaya bodoh melantun-lantun sama..

He said the current practice where Cabinet members declared their assets to the prime minister was sufficient.
"I declare my assets to the Prime Minister, I have nothing to hide and I feel that it is sufficient. However, any call of this nature (the public declaration of assets) which involves the policy of the government has to be discussed at the Cabinet," he told reporters after closing the 4th Annual Malaysian Student Leaders Summit 2010, here today.
He said this when asked to comment on remarks made by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Datuk Seri Abu Kassim Mohammed that he wished to see such a thing in Malaysia.
Abu Kassim yesterday was reported to have said that he agreed with a suggestion by former Bar Council president Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan which called for Cabinet members to declare their assets to the public in the interest of transparency.
On the suggestion by DAP's national chairman Karpal Singh that child rapists be given the death sentence, Hishammuddin said however severe the punishment, it would not be able to solve the real problem.
"If the death sentence for drug traffickers has not been effective, what is the rationale for imposing the same for child molesters?. Not that I condone the act, but maybe that sentencing alone is not going to solve the matter," he said.
Yesterday, Karpal Singh had asked the government to amend Section 376 of the Penal Code so that child rapists could be handed the death sentence.
He said this was necessary as more and more chidlren were falling prey to criminals including rapists.
