Nik Nazmi: Grade C Khusrin not qualified to be state-sec
Written by Wong Choon Mei, Malaysia Chronicle

“Based on track record, Khusrin is not qualified. He is just a Grade C officer, but to force through the appointment, he has been catapulted into Grade A which is the grade a state secretary holds,” Seri Setia assemblyman Nik Nazmi wrote in his blog.

Nik Nazmi: Grade C Khusrin not qualified to be state-sec

Seri Setia state assemblyman Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad claimed that Khusrin was just a Grade C officer, and as such was not qualified to be appointed as state secretary which is a Grade A post.
“He leaps past the Grade B to hold the position of state secretary which is a Grade A post. Khusrin has only spent 3 out of 27 years as the administrative and diplomatic office at Federal level, the rest of the years, he was only serving in Selangor," he said, and quipped that Khusrin’s qualification "is his opposition to the Pakatan state government".(HERE)

APA MEREKA BUAT DI PARIS di cedok dari tukartiub.blogspot.com

Mahathir and Najib were in Paris where they made friend with a French guy named Jean Paul.

They used to go all over Paris with him (he was a good guide and translator for them) when suddenly one day Jean Paul disappeared.

Mahathir and Najib went to the police and lodged a complaint about the disappearance of their good friend.

The police asked Mahathir and Najib if they could give some vital clues about Jean Paul that would make finding him easier.

Mahathir says: " Jean Paul was handsome and not tall."

Police: "All Frenchmen are like that... give us something more specific!!"

Najib says: " Jean Paul had blue eyes and was very fair."

Police says: "C'mon guys, all Frenchmen have blue eyes and they are fair, tell us something more specific!"

Mahathir and Najib almost chorused and said: "Oh yes... now we remember, Jean Paul had two holes in his ass!!!

The Policeman gets really interested now, "Now that's something very specific - but tell me, how do you know this?? Did you guys see his assholes??

Mahathir and Najib: " No we didn’t see the assholes, but wherever we went with Jean Paul, everyone was overheard saying, "Here comes Jean Paul with the TWO assholes!!"

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 27: "Who is the minister?" is the question on everyone's lips following a revelation in WikiLeaks that a Malaysian cabinet member had got scot free despite allegation that he had raped his Indonesian helper three years ago.

The news immediately shot to become one of the most read stories this year after Harakahdaily published the WikiLeaks expose quoting blogger Rocky Bru.

Rocky Bru, or Ahirudin Attan, who is the editor-in-chief of free daily paper The Malay Mail as well as a well-known blogger, had earlier touched on the incident which took place in 2007, when Abdullah Badawi was the prime minister.

According to WikiLeaks, the incident had become a topic of conversation among diplomatic circles, including the US and Indonesian embassies, and was also discussed in the Prime Minister's Department.

"hang golek atas aku, hang hancoq,

aku golek atas hang, hang hancoq leboq.. KA KA KA

Now that Najib the peddler of durian diplomacy knows what his admirers across the narrow sluggish waterway really think of him, a view no doubt shared by many in his own backyard, I wonder what other great plans he has in mind to develop with Singapore. They have even implied that he is connected with a deed most foul."

Singapore redefines braggadocio — Tunku Abdul Aziz
December 18, 2010

DEC 18 — Four years ago, on October 18, 2006, I wrote an opinion piece from my 30th-floor office in the UN Secretariat, New York, for the New Sunday Times. The title, “Singapore is simply a neighbour too far”, I thought fairly described my assessment of the state of our relations with neighbouring Singapore. It upset a great many Singaporeans; it also made many realise that “what’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.”

A Singaporean behaves too much like an insecure lover, forever seeking assurance that she is the fairest of them all and that she is much admired and loved. The insatiable craving for praise and adoration would, in normal circumstances, point to a serious flaw in the national character. This much I remember from the child psychology lectures I attended in college all those long years ago. How else can you explain their supercilious behaviour towards us, the Japanese and Indians, all falling into the category of “stupid?”

Singapore is not an unknown quantity to us in Malaysia. In a sense it is of us, but not part of us. Forget the so-called historical ties that are supposed to underpin our relations because they amount to nothing in practice.

To view them through rose-tinted spectacles as is our wont would distort even further a relationship that has never been known for its convergence of views on even the most pedestrian of issues. Rather, it has always had all the makings and attributes of a potentially protracted and acrimonious future.

Singapore has no time for sentiments; emotion is anathema to its national make-up. So, do not use that tack because it simply will not wash with it. Singapore is brutally clinical and rarely takes prisoners in any engagement with it.

Memang LUNCH CHOW Lah

Madu tualang power! Click here
We have, as a nation,

been truly sold down the “river of no return” by Mahathir.

Change, and complete change, is the answer.

By Tunku Abdul Aziz Ibrahim

Malaysia is, ethically speaking, in dire straits.

Mahathir founded his administration on corruption, lies and subterfuge. He lied to the nation about the many schemes that were blatantly dishonest. Worse, they were criminal, such as gambling with the EPF money, your money and mine, to corner the international tin market, and later the country’s reserves to speculate on the currency market, pitting himself in the latter case against George Soros. The country lost billions.

Mahathir succeeded in planting and nurturing a culture of impunity and disinformation that, even long after he left office, has continued to flourish. Of course, the man who cut his business teeth minding a stall at the Pekan Rabu in Alor Setar during the Japanese Occupation can explain all this away by saying that whatever he did, it was done in the national interest. We have heard it all before.

Corrupt officials do not enforce the law. Our corruption has turned Malaysia into a conduit for human trafficking into Australia. When we add to this the corruption in the ruling elite, the police, the judiciary, the customs and other key institutions, we have a thoroughly ugly picture of a country fuelled and driven by ethically reprehensible behaviour.

We have, as a nation, been truly sold down the “river of no return” by Mahathir, who now continues to set his version of the moral tone of this country. In what capacity I neither know nor care any more. Flood or pestilence, it is business as usual. In this country, we privatise and politicise everything, including corruption.

[Can anything be done] to take Malaysia back to the pre-Mahathir values? It is possible, by turfing out the present administration so that a thorough and complete review of policies and procedures, with mechanisms for checks and balances firmly put in place. All institutions must justify their existence; those no longer relevant will be closed down. Institutions rendered dysfunctional will be strengthened. The deadwood and the corrupt will be encouraged to take early retirement. Meritocracy will be the sole criterion for suitability to lead.

Transforming the administration is not only desirable, but absolutely essential to [claim our] right to a seat at the top table, among the clean nations, that will shape the future of the world.

Change, and complete change, is the answer. Malaysians must decide the kind of future they want.

I am anti-national by Najib’s latest definition because I speak the truth in a foreign country about Malaysia’s unsavoury reputation for massive corruption. I suppose living off corruption as many of our leaders do with panache and impunity is part of being a true Malaysia.

TUNKU ABDUL AZIZ IBRAHIM

Condensed from a speech at the 2010 conference of the Australian Corporate Lawyers Association in Sydney in November. Tunku Abdul Aziz is Senator for Penang, national vice-chairman of the DAP, and former vice-chairman of corruption watchdog Transparency International.

Ibrahim has indeed angered Malaysians especially the non-Malays with dramatic proclamations that he cared for nobody and nothing but his own Malay race. Together with his ultra-Malay rights group Perkasa, he has tried to fan and stir up trouble between the various communities.

Arsène Wenger has reacted angrily to taunts from the Manchester United defender Patrice Evra that Arsenal are merely a "training centre" and a club in crisis, accusing the defender of being disrespectful and running scared.

Before Monday's top-of-the-table Premier League game between the sides at Old Trafford, Evra mocked Arsenal for failing to win a trophy since 2005 despite playing attractive football.

The Frenchman told Canal Plus, the TV station: "For me Arsenal is a football training centre. You watch the match, you enjoy it, but are you going to win a title afterwards? That's what people remember. It has been five years since they won anything and for a big club like Arsenal that is a crisis.

KUALA LUMPUR: Abandoned housing projects are commonplace throughout Malaysia's property landscape. But for the villagers of Kampung Berembang, this fact comes as a painful truth.

Once home to a few thousand inhabitants, Kampung Berembang in the vicinity of Ampang has been reduced to a shantytown of rude huts, with only 30-odd families left.

With their original houses forcibly bulldozed by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council in 2006, many of the villagers have had to move to other locations throughout the Klang Valley.

Those who have been fortunate enough to remain have been forced to live in tents for a few years, adding zinc sheets and leftover wood to craft into makeshift houses.

The villagers are stuck between a rock and a hard place. To the northeast lies a YTL cement factory, with its cement trucks rumbling precariously every five to 10 minutes along Jalan Berembang.

A water retention area for the SMART tunnel sits to the north, while to their west are planned quarters for government workers from Sabah.

Even their skyline has been taken away from them, with the whole village dangerously resting beneath high tension power cables.

Understanding The Concept of Education In Islam

Madu tualang power! Click here
Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas

The meaning of education and of what it involves is of utmost importance in the formulation of a system of education and its implementation. Supposing I am asked: What is education?, and I answer: Education is a process of instilling something into human beings. In this answer ‘a process of instilling’ refers to the method and the system by which what is called ‘education’ is gradually imparted; ‘something’ refers to the content of what is instilled; and ‘human beings’ refers to the recipient of both the process and the content.

Now the answer given above already encompasses the three fundamental elements that constitute education: the process, the content, the recipient; but it is not yet a definition because those elements are deliberately left vague. Furthermore, the way of formulating the sentence meant to be developed into a definition as given above gives the impression that what is emphasized is the process. Supposing I reformulate the answer: Education is something progressively instilled into man. Now here we still encompass the three fundamental elements inherent in education, but the order of precedence as to the important clement that constitutes education is now the content and not the process. Let us consider this last formulation and proceed in analyzing the inherent concepts.

Dr M dan Lee Kuan Yew ada persamaan mereka

by Zaki Samsudin November

In Love With Racism

Madu tualang power! Click here
Tay Tian Yan
Thursday, 04 November 2010

My original title for this article should have been Titiwangsa or: How I learned to stop worrying and love racism.

Sounding weird, isn't it? What the hell is it?

Sorry, I could have got excessively intoxicated by Stanley Kubrick, whose Dr.Strangelove or: How I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb talked about the narrow nationalism and threats of nuclear bombs during the Cold War era.

Under the influence of his ideological education, an aggressive American general initiated the nuclear warhead to launch attack on Soviet targets, sending the world in utter annihilation.

Nuclear bombs are too dangerous and should not have existed in the first place. But thanks to politics, they had become a tool for the manipulation of world leaders and everyone just fell in love with them.

Kubrick successfully made such a dry and gloomy topic into a comedy, one that the industry has labelled the most outstanding satire ever made in human history.

Even the title of the movie itself became a popular pun during those years. And the same is still applicable in the Malaysian context today. For instance, Namewee should perhaps write another song titled : How I learned to stop saying "Nah" and sing "Hallelujah," while Encik Jamal should rephrase his words: How I learned to stop saying Chinese education is bullshit and love the Dongjiaozhong.

Going a bit too far, right? What I'm supposed to talk about here is actually our Encik Johari.

I checked with the "Johari: We don't need Chinese and Indian votes" on Youtube and found that the clip has been visited more than 300,000 times, a whole lot more than Namewee's "Nah!"

Johari has apologised twice, but he also said the clip was altered and fabricated by some ill-intentioned people and that he had never been a racist himself, adding that Titiwangsa Umno indeed needed Chinese and Indian votes more now than ever.

Since he was no racist, and that the video clip had been altered and fabricated, it was indeed too harsh on him to get him apologise two times.

Why on earth has someone publicised speeches supposedly held behind closed doors, and why did people choose to hold two by-elections at such a timing?

Why Ahmad Ismail did not need to apologise back then, and Johari needed to do it twice?

Why could people sing racism loudly in the past, but even doing it behind closed doors now is strictly forbidden?

Time has changed. Yes, people are getting more intelligent and ballots become important now. Racism has been given a new, politically correct definition.

People used to stay away from racist talks, but now the same can become a topic to joke about.

So, I have learned to stop worrying and start loving racism. - mysinchew.com

Top Ten Unusual and Long English Words

Harakahdaily

TAKE A BREAK Oct 27: English, they say, is a 'crazy' language. Not only this most spoken and written language in the world refuses to follow a logical pattern in its pronunciation and spelling, it also has the tendency to plagiarise tens of thousands of words from different languages to fatten the English dictionary.

And that makes learning English a lot more fun. Here are the top ten unusually long and interesting words as compiled recently by online dictionary Merriam-Webster. Can you relate some of them to our local politicians?

1. Machiavellianism: the view that politics is amoral and that any means, however unscrupulous, can justifiably be used in achieving political power

In 1513, Niccolò Machiavelli wrote Il Principe ("The Prince") to advise and impress the new Florentine ruler, Prince Lorenzo de' Medici. The book's instructions on obtaining and wielding power – e.g., "It is better to be feared than loved" – suggest the cynicism that gave its author a place in the language.

2. Hypervitaminosis: an abnormal state resulting from excessive intake of one or more vitamins

The word vitamin (in part from Latin vita, meaning "life") dates back only to 1912. The study of vitamins was still in its infancy when the word hypervitaminosis emerged in 1928. (Hyper means "excessive.").

Two vitamins commonly implicated in hypervitaminosis are A and D, both of which are stored in the body, rather than excreted.

3. Gedankenexperiment: an experiment carried out in thought only

Gedanken means "thoughts" in German. The term was popularized by Albert Einstein, who applied gedankenexperiment to his work conceptualizing the theory of relativity.

Why won’t you speak Malay?

OCT 29 2010— I have a confession: whenever I meet a Malaysian who can’t carry on a simple conversation in Malay, I have violent fantasies. Most of them involve a six-foot tall copy of the Kamus Dewan and stakes.

Yet I also meet people who refuse to speak Malay purely on principle. Most of them resent the way our national language is unfortunately stuffed down our throats. When I was in school, a credit in Malay was unfortunately a pre-requisite if you wanted to get the highest examination rank or Division One (Pangkat Satu).

That created a lot of resentment among my non Malay-speaking friends. It was a language they avoided speaking unless they had to, as they were “forced” to learn it. Things have changed since then, but the damage has been done. Generations of Malaysians grew up despising the language due to misguided education policies.

Walk May Help Preserve Memory

Madu tualang power! Click here

We all know that we have two ears and one mouth so that we will listen more and talk less.

Now, latest finding shows that we are given two feet so that we can walk and walk aroung instead of being a couch potato. ~ LibangLibu

NEW YORK - Walks not only help older people stay physically fit, they may also be good for their brains, a new US study has shown.

The study, by a team of University of Pittsburgh researchers led by neurologist Kirk Erickson, suggested that walking at least 10 kilometres a week protected against age-related memory loss.

The results were published in Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

"Brain size shrinks in late adulthood, which can cause memory problems," said Erickson, who proposed further studies to determine whether, and what kind of, fitness training could help prevent dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

I Want PLASTIC Bags!

Joan Lau MALAYSIAN INSIDER

November 09, 2010 — I love plastic bags. There, I have said it. Don’t everybody be writing me and accusing me of killing dolphins now. Plastic bags are great for lining the bins and I always use them to pack my shampoo and conditioner when I am travelling. Nobody wants to have shampoo and other liquid stuff leak all over their bag, right?

And wait, they are great for toting your wet towel from the gym or yoga class. And wet swimsuits. Please, don’t tell me you carry them around in your gym bag just like that? You put in a plastic bag right?

All this hoo-ha about no plastic bags annoys me. Now when I go to the supermarket, I feel like an environmental rapist when I answer yes to “Do you need a plastic bag?” Never mind that I have to pay for it AND recycle it.

Vitamin D Deficiencies Can Be Deadly

HELSINKI - A fresh study at the University of Eastern Finland shows that vitamin D deficiencies can increase a person''s risk of death, Finnish media reported Wednesday.

Researchers studied the effects of vitamin D on over 1,000 people aged from 53 to 73 who did not suffer from cancer or vascular diseases, but 65 percent of the subjects were found to have low levels of vitamin D.

The subjects were monitored for an average of nine years. A total of 87 of the participants died during the course of the study.

On Equality, Human Fraternity and Gandhi

Tariq Ramadan

Equality between men is an ideal. Religions, philosophies and political ideologies have made the equality of human beings the essence of their teachings, principles or systems.

Individuals must be treated with equal dignity and fairness. And yet a journey through societies and nations is all it takes to convince us that we still have a very long way to go: political philosophies have been elaborated, Declarations and Charters have been drawn up, ratified and signed, and laws have been passed, but the reality of inequality and discrimination is obvious to all. Universally.

Whilst equality is a de facto legal principle, we cannot avoid the conclusion that the law is not enough to establish it. Before we talk about laws and rules, we have to discuss and evaluate the very idea of humanity, and of its unity and diversity.

Madey tells Malays: To be given handicaps is to ensure fairness

Dr Madey
I am not ashamed to admit that I cannot compete with the Chinese and Indian students when studying medicine. They had much better results than me and the other six Malay students for entry into the Medical College.

"I cannot compete with the Chinese and Indian?? Indian???"

thee he he he dah tua-tua pun masih tak mengaku.. thee he he

Mengaku saja laaa...1Malaya dah tau.. 1Malaya tak kisah pun, PM 1Malaya tak ada sorang pun orang Melayu..

It is not shameful to lose out against them. Simply to catch up with them we need handicaps. To be given handicaps is to ensure fairness, not discrimination.

I would like to apologise to the students and others for failing to turn up to give the talk I had agreed to. I would also like to thank those who sent get well messages, fruits and flowers while I was in hospital in Melbourne.(read more HERE)

Diminishing Position Of Hajj in a Modern Muslim World

Madu tualang power! Click here
Gone are the days when the whole kampung will have a kenduri when one of them who are fortunate enough to go to perform the hajj in Mecca.

Friends and relatives will come in droves to say 'bon voyage'.

Even more friends and relatives will come when they safely return home as there will be some titbits from the Holy Land like dates, dried apricots, raisins and the most coveted one, the Air Zam Zam. Nowadays we can get bottled Air Zam Zam at selected stores for RM10 per bottle.

Going to Mecca in those days to perform the hajj was one big occasion. Those who went will cherised the moments and will gladly share their experience over and over again with anyone who are willing to listen.

While those who are not fortunate enough to go will hope and pray someday they will make it.

After all, who does'nt want to go to the land of the prophets?

Diminishing Position Of Hajj in a Modern Muslim World

Iqbal Siddiqui / Crescent

This writer has never had the privilege of performing Hajj. It may be many years before I am able to do so, although I hope and pray to have the opportunity before the end of my time on this earth, insha’allah.

But for Muslims all over the world, these few days of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah — when the attention of the entire Muslim world is focused on the annual gathering of the Ummah in Makkah — should be the focal point of every year, culminating with the wuquf on Mount Arafat, the symbolic pre-enactment of the Last Gathering on the Day of Judgement. This is how Hajj can fulfil its role as an annual reminder of our place and role in this world and of the life to come for which this life is merely a precursor.

The reality, of course, is rather different. Each year, at this time, there is a rush of articles about the belittling of the modern Hajj experience under the leadership of the Saudis, for whom it seems more a logistical problem of managing the large numbers of people who perform it than a unique collective experience for the Ummah as a whole.

History and ethnic sentiments — Chandra Muzaffar http://www.themalaysianinsider.com
November 15, 2010

NOV 15 — It is a pity that the announcement about making history a requirement for obtaining the Sijil Peperiksaan Malaysia (SPM) was made at the general assembly of a political party. Rightly or wrongly, it has given rise to accusations that it is a politically motivated move, or that it serves some hidden ethnic agenda.

Memang byk sejarah..thee he he kalau tak, muruku pun kita tak kenal

Dah berpuluh tahun pun asyik kena auta dgn Samy Vellu.. thee he he tak kisah pun.

Sejarah memang hebat.. 25 tahun la 1Malaya dah kena kapor Madey.. thee he he

1Malaya mana pernah berPMkan Melayu? Cuba belek2 sejarah betol-betol.

Itu la pasal.. kalau jumpa mamat Chandra nama Melayu ni dalam hutan..thee hehe

Balun dia dulu.. dia ni lagi bahaya dari ular.

In fact, the reactions to the announcement reveal how deep ethnic sentiments are in our society today —- so deep that those articulating a certain view are perhaps not even conscious that their position reflects a subtle ethnic bias. The vast majority of non-Malay politicians, media commentators and academics, for instance, have demanded that the history syllabus should incorporate the contributions of all communities to the development of the nation.

She Prefers A Horse

Madu tualang power! Click here
Blind student saves for three years to buy a guide HORSE because her strict Muslim parents consider dogs unclean

As a blind Muslim woman, Mona Ramouni has had to make do without a guide dog her whole life. The 28-year-old's strictly religious parents would not allow a dog in the house, considering the animal unclean. But then Miss Ramouni stumbled across a website article about miniature guide horses in April 2008.

'It was something that I never thought about for myself,' she said.Leading the blind: Mona Ramouni has bought and trained a miniature horse, Cali, to be her guide. The psychology student used three years of savings from her job at a Braille proofreading company to pay for a horse to be trained to act as her guide.

Since welcoming three-year-old guide horse Cali into her Dearborn, Michigan, home last year, Miss Ramouni has seen her life turned around. Cali measures about 2ft 6in tall and has been taught to stand still indoors. She also helps Miss Ramouni get out of vehicles and move through crowds. Her proud mistress said: 'She is an awesome little horse. What I really want is to be able to take her places neither of us would have been able to go without each other.

'Before Cali, I had given up. I got to the point where I thought, 'I'm going to get nothing out of my life'. Cali has given me the confidence back I used to have as a kid.' Born three months premature, Miss Ramouni lost her sight shortly after birth. Among the challenges she had to overcome in order for Cali to stay at her home were getting a permit to place a large shed in her family's garden and to find a farrier to look after the horse's hooves.

Her friends warned her it would be a difficult thing to do. But Miss Ramouni said: 'The more everybody told me "No, don't do it," the more I wanted to do it,' she said. 'I got to a point in my life where I thought... "Why should I settle for something less than I can have?" 'There have been so many obstacles. People said 'You'll never find a vet. You'll never find a farrier." I found them all.'

She added: 'More than even the independence, I found that Cali showed me that there are possibilities.' (click here for more)

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22: Bukit Bendera member of parliament Liew Chin Tong, fresh from exposing mistakes and misinformation in the just-tabled 2011 budget, has questioned the colossal allocation of RM65 million to renovate the Prime Minister’s official residence in Putrajaya.
